Dr. Barton Giessel

Dr. Barton Giessel is a board-certified family physician at Pagosa Springs Integrated Healthcare with expertise in outpatient medicine, focusing particularly on chronic disease management and urgent care. With over two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Giessel has contributed to improving healthcare delivery across diverse settings, including rural health practices and urban medical centers.

Dr. Giessel served as a Staff Physician at SLV Health from January 2021 to July 2023, where he specialized in managing chronic diseases among elderly patients. He was also Medical Director at the Monte Vista Clinic of Rio Grande Hospital from November 2018 to December 2020, overseeing a rural health practice dedicated to offering comprehensive care to underserved communities.

His previous roles include providing full-spectrum adult ambulatory medical care, including wellness and acute and complex chronic disease management. Additionally, he was a member of the Physician Advisory Council and the Physician Leadership Group, contributing to strategic health initiatives at both outpatient and hospital levels.

Dr. Giessel’s commitment to healthcare extends to his earlier work at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where he managed outpatient cases in public hospital emergency centers from June 2009 to August 2012. His experience also includes urgent care services, locum tenens roles, and the management of a solo private practice at Prairieland Family Practice.

Dr. Giessel completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics, known for its focus on academic medicine and rural healthcare practices. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Giessel is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP). He holds a Colorado medical license and is BCLS certified, with previous certifications in ACLS, ATLS, and PALS.

Dr. Barton Giessel continues to advocate for enhancing healthcare access and quality, particularly within underserved and rural communities. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, skiing, cooking, and foreign cinema.
