About Dr. Wallace Pond, Ph.D., LPCC

Wallace Pond, Ph.D., LPCC, is a nationally certified counselor providing in-person and telehealth services to patients at the Gunnison and Crested Butte offices of Axis Health System. He has provided therapy and counseling in Colorado since 2021, with a focus on trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, personality disorders, and substance use issues. Wallace works with individuals, couples, and families and is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Play Therapy, Sex Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused addiction therapy.

“I have come to work in counseling later in life after facing my own mental health challenges and significant life transitions. I view most client issues through a developmental, biological, and social perspective, believing that most behaviors and conditions are not pathological (what’s wrong with us) but rather what would be expected based on the client’s situation (what happened to us). I take a non-judgmental and integrated approach, committed to the notion that we cannot separate mind, soul, and body regarding wellness and mental health. I believe in a person-centered approach to therapy, with the client as an equal in a shared journey toward self-efficacy, resilience, and long-term mental health.”

Wallace is currently living in Crested Butte. His previous career was in K-12, higher education, and corporate settings, having lived and worked in six countries outside of the U.S. He has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Hispanic Literature, Master’s degrees in Human Services and Clinical Mental Health, and a Ph.D. in Education with a focus on multiculturalism.

He is currently seeing Medicaid and self-pay or sliding-fee clients.
